Yet we know this is much easier said than done – alternatives seem hidden away,  routines are hard to break and let’s face it – the options can often be pricey or simply not up to the job – after a determined attempt to make changes many give up or pop it on the never ending to do list. 

Well we believe in Southwell we have something special which will make eliminating plastics a lot easier – we have a strong trusted community with the means to share information easily.

It’s easy to pick up fruit and veg without the packaging at Southwell Market. If you tell the person serving you that you wish to avoid plastic they do their best to tip things into your own bag. They will be only too pleased.

 

TOP TIP : For smaller items bags are just coming to the market (https://andkeep.com/collections/produce-bags/products/re-sack-large-organic-produce-net) that will help but if you want a very light one that can be weighed with the mushrooms etc. a white net bag designed for your small wash items is sold in the Handi-Centre. Light and washable.

Strawberry and Goats Cheese Salad – A Perfect Summer Meal

First published on facebook in honour of the football evenings during the World Cup 2018 – This red and white recipe is perfect for any summer’s evening get-together… with thanks to The Extraordinary John Starkey Bramley Apple Products – Southwell, Nottinghamshire. Who, incidently grow the juciest strawberries around!

Keep the delicious strawberry inspirations coming!

Strawberry & Goat’s Cheese Salad

1 punnet Starkey strawberries
2 bunches watercress
1 celery heart
2 tbsps olives
1 tbsp pistachio nuts
300g goats cheese
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
4 tbsps olive oil

 

Method: 

Place the watercress, celery and pistachio nuts in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil and mix.

Scatter with halved strawberries, cheese, olives and salt & pepper.

Drizzle with a dressing made from marinated finely chopped strawberries, balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper. 🍓
