Are you a local business willing to provide a Seat for older members of the community to rest for a few minutes whilst walking into and around town? Then please join our ‘Take A Seat’ Campaign.
Here at the Southwell Live at Home Scheme we are in the fortunate position to spend time with older members of our community. The age of our members ranges from 60 through to 102 and their ability to visit Southwell town centre varies depending not on age but on a combination of environmental and physical factors.
Whether walking unaided or with assistance many of our members have told us that they avoid going into town simply because they need to stop regularly to rest and there is a lack of suitable seats on their journey. Ultimately this increases loneliness and isolation within individuals, resulting in increased health problems and depression.
We are determined at The Southwell Live at Home Scheme to tackle this growing problem and believe that the ‘Take A Seat’ Initiative is an easy first step for the community to become involved.
“I know that our local businesses would never refuse a request for a seat, but it is not something I like to do. Seeing the sticker would help me to feel more welcome and comfortable asking for help.” Local resident and lunch club member.
The Initiative overseen by The Age Friendly Nottinghamshire Team at Notts County Council is very simple. A local business registers online via Nottinghamshire.gov.uk/takeaseat or in person via ourselves.
By registering you agree to :
– Display a ‘Take a Seat’ sticker in the window;
– Provide a chair for someone who may need to sit and rest before continuing on their journey.
– Be listed on the Notts County Council Take A Seat website page.
In addition to this we will support the businesses involved and share details with our members and volunteers.
Please do get in touch with Southwell Live at Home on firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in knowing more or when you register. Thank you for your support.
